Moss. One of many reasons to love Oregon.

On this Earth Day, I walk to my cherished cluster of three mossy trees.

soft

exquisite moss

I caress it

allowing my hands to

glide downwards

stopping to hold 

my hands connecting

to the fibers

to the solidity of the tree

to the tree roots

running deep into the earth

connecting with other roots

forever and ever

the earth's ecosystems 

connecting with each other

I am touching that deep connection.

I am part of it all.

I am connected to the Earth

on this Earth Day. 

Earth, you are a wondrous planet, and I am in awe of your beauty. My humblest apologies that we humans do not value you enough to respect your needs. You would be justified in wiping us all away in the name of self preservation, but in this moment I thank you for giving us such beauty.
